SCRAPS AND SCRIBBLES
Sometime in July we took a casual drive into the lower Cascades, not really expecting anything, just intending to kill time. As it turns out, the most memorable mini road trips are the ones that surprise you. We departed under overcast skies with dimensionless light, and reached a scenic point just as the first rays of golden hour shot across the mountainsides.
A couple years ago I photographed a marina cookout and oyster education event out on the Olympic Peninsula for a business called Fjordlux, and I grabbed a few bonus shots of Helmsman Trawlers boats that evening in passing. Just the other week I reconnected with some kind folks at both companies and spent a drizzly weekend afternoon aboard a beautifully trimmed Helmsman yacht.
